I'm Dr. Husam Balkhy, Director, Center for Minimally Invasive Cardiac and
Robotic Surgery, The Wisconsin Heart Hospital, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. I have received my Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery training at Tufts New England Medical Center and the Lahey Clinic in Boston, MA. I am board certified in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery, and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Surgeons, and the American College of Chest Physicians. I am a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, and the 21st Century Cardiothoracic Surgical Society.
I am well known for my strong advocacy of less invasive cardiac surgery. I was one of the first surgeons in the country to apply minimally invasive techniques for Atrial Fibrillation Surgery using a Thoracoscopic approach. I have embraced Port Access minimally invasive valve surgery for all isolated valve procedures. As a leader in off pump coronary bypass surgery, I have participated in several multicenter randomized studies. Most recently, I have participated as a principle investigator in the EPIC PAS-Port proximal anastomotic device clinical trial. In addition, I have the largest experience in the US with clinically approved distal anastomotic devices, and have recently incorporated robotics into my clinical practice, the Cardiothoracic Surgery Group, S.C. I have trained numerous surgeons and presented at multiple professional meetings on these minimally invasive techniques in cardiac surgery.
